LOCATION

The Gas Transmission System Planning Engineer (General Engineer I) position is eligible for remote work or can be based in in our Michigan locations.
The successful candidate will need to be able to attend in person meetings at the Parnall office in Jackson, one or two days per week as needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES

he Gas System Planning Engineer has primary responsibility for building, maintaining and operating simulation models for gas transmission pipelines, gas storage fields, and compressors as well as forecasting needs to support our customers.
The candidate will conduct complex studies utilizing multiple analysis tools and sources of data.
This position will act as a subject matter expert and will prepare annual updates to key system planning models, data and tools as well as eventually act independently to anticipate and solve problems.
Clear communication and the ability to prioritize work are also important.
Communication outside of the GMS organization is expected while communication outside the Company will likely be required as the successful candidate develops.

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Updating and utilizing simulation models for gas transmission pipelines, gas storage fields, and compressors to support the Company s gas transmission outage planning needs in coordination with other Company departments.
  • Updating, validating, and utilizing simulation models to support winter operations planning and system capacity evaluation by analyzing design peak day conditions in current and projected future winter scenarios.
  • Perform modeling, data, or financial analysis to support our team s feedback on key strategic projects or asset evaluations.
    Work may include review and providing feedback on project scoping documents or early development of scoping documents.
  • Updating, supporting, and improving important statistical evaluations utilized for system and operations planning purposes (Historical Weather, Linear Regression Analyses, Customer Load Forecasting)
  • Perform data retrieval, modeling, and analysis to support and inform other Company departments of transmission system operating capabilities or design requirements.
  • Performing research, retrieval, validation of gas transmission, storage, and compression operating data and information to support GSOP modeling inputs and planning analyses.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • A minimum of two years of applied engineering working experience

  • Knowledge of & ability to apply engineering concepts to complex multivariable modeling and analysis
  • Knowledge in Complex Studies, Research, & Data Retrieval
  • Problem solving experience
  • Communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt to different tools & software
  • Dealing with detailed data, uncertainty & ambiguity
  • Process improvement & documentation experience

HOURS & TRAVEL

This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 95% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
Travel is required to job sites and project meetings as needed.
