General
Summary:

This position joins a team of modelers who perform several long-term and unique forecasting activities within the Electric Supply Planning team.
In particular, this analyst will be responsible for the collection of electric generation and demand-side resource data, application of the data into a complex software tool, which may require advanced technical knowledge, and provide meaningful interpretation of the results of the modeling.
These efforts are primarily in support of modeling that provides the building blocks of integrated resource planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop and perform model simulations, as part of Integrated Resource Planning, to support a number of company initiatives, including addition of new electric generation resources, accelerated retirement of existing electric generation resources, or expansion of energy efficiency or other demand-side management programs, in collaboration with various departments in the company
  • Review or prepare testimony, exhibits, responses to discovery questions, etc.
    to support various filings with the Michigan Public Service Commission, including, but not limited to:
    integrated resource plans, certificate of necessity, capacity plan filings, PURPA avoided cost filings, PSCR cases, electric rate cases, etc.
    May act as a subject-matter expert witness or support other expert witnesses within Electric Grid Integration
  • Conduct production cost modeling studies in collaboration with various departments in the company
  • Develop regional market models based on review of industry publications and evaluations of modeling data supplied by software vendors
  • Develop presentation materials to explain complex results to upper management, including the Senior Executive Team and CEO

Education requirements:

Bachelor s degree in scientific/technical field

7 or more years of related exempt work experience as a Technical Analyst Engineering

  • The essence of the work that is performed in the Engineering Technical Analyst Job Family is design, develop, build, and test mechanical, electrical, electronic devices, tools, plants, facilities and systems while applying the principles of motion, energy, force, and materials.
    In addition, the Lead positions supervise other Engineering Technical Analysts and technical employees.
    For some jobs in this family, professional certification or licensing may be required.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains rate models; assesses adequacy of rates and rate structures and makes rate recommendations; Conducts a variety of financial analyses and financial studies, related to rate models and structures; performs cost allocations; develops and maintains financial models; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; conducts financial & statistical research; performs analysis of statistical data; recommends and implements modifications for improvement to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; Collects, compiles, and analyzes information from various sources on a variety of topics, including complex financial, analytical, budget or administrative issues; monitors and evaluates the efficiencies and effectiveness of basic financial operations; Prepares executive level reports, presentations, summaries, and correspondence; creates comprehensive technical records and reports; Prepares staff reports for presentation to the Public Service Commission; Performs cost benefit evaluations of proposed capital and operating budget items; develops capital funding strategies; makes determinations related to the overall benefit of the proposal and alternatives; implements policies and procedures accordingly; Develops long-range financial planning and revenue requirements; conducts various feasibility and cost studies; forecasts the impacts of potential future events; Assists expert witnesses with the planning and coordination of testimony and exhibits; provides responsible, accurate, and thorough technical and administrative project support to expert witnesses; Performs duties in a professional manner and works well with others or in a team setting; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, outside agencies, and the public; Regular attendance and adherence to prescribed work schedule is expected to conduct job responsibilities; Observes safe work practices and safety methods; performs other duties as assigned.
