Intern Program Summary

The Consumers Energy Internship Program is designed to be complimentary to traditional classroom instruction and is based on the three core principles of skill development, ability enhancement, and knowledge application.
In addition to working alongside full-time employees within the Metering & Regulation Mechanical and Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EI&C) Design teams, interns will have the opportunity to participate in a number of optional events within the program.

Job Description/Responsibilities

The Design Technician applies company design and construction standards to develop detailed non-routine mechanical or electrical engineering designs and construction specifications for gas facilities.
A CAD environment is used in the development of detailed gas distribution and transmission system construction drawings in support of the mechanical equipment and electrical components installed at these facilities.
The design technician will be involved with planning, monitoring and facilitating the progress of projects through the SAP process to meet internal and external customer needs.
Other job responsibilities will include; initiating material procurement in advance of construction, and the application of standards contained in the Gas Distribution Engineering Manual (GDEM), the Transmission and Storage Engineering Manual (TSEM) and the Metering and Regulation Manual.

Requirements/Qualifications

Enrolled and actively pursuing an associates or bachelor's degree in Applied Science (prefrence concentration in CAD and Design Technology or a Technical related field in Engineering.

A successful candidate should have a GPA of 3.
0 or higher.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • A mechanical/electrical aptitude
  • An ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, provide appropriate solutions to problems, and make decisions in a team environment.
  • Aptitude to learn ProjectWise and SAP is a must; prior experience a plus

Primary location of this internship will be at Consumers Energy headquarters in Jackson, MI.
However,
remote work will be supported due to COVID-19.

Essential Functions

Provide high quality designs for regulator stations, CI (Commercial & Industrial) meters, and city gates.
Make design decisions with regard to facilities utilized for gas distribution.
Consults with supervisors, operators, and engineers to review assigned area needs, discuss problems, prioritize work, and provide technical expertise.
Receives reports and correspondence; reviews, processes or maintains documentation for reference.
Performs other related duties as required.
Review, edit, develop, manage, and interpret documents and drawings utilized for the purposes of maintaining, constructing, testing, and removing facilities for gas transmission and distribution systems.

Hours and Travel

Meet travel requirements of the position.
Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.

Position will be filled at the appropriate salary grade based upon the skills, knowledge, and experience of the selected candidate.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
