Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Deputy Court Administrator, Maintains and monitors bench warrants issued by the court for failing to pay fines and costs or failing to follow a court order.
Reviews files and tickets on which individuals are delinquent in paying money owed to the Court.
Monitors reports or delinquencies of payments and initiates enforcement action.
Conducts searches and makes arrests throughout the city, county, and state for individuals with outstanding bench warrants.
Coordinates all enforcement efforts for the court.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
1.
Prior to making field arrests, conducts investigations into background (i.
e.
, risk assessment).
2.
Obtains and attempts to serve bench warrants on persons failing to make payment or to pay their fines and costs.
3.
Maintains close contact with other law enforcement agencies throughout the state for purposes of executing warrants when the individual is located outside of Jackson County.
4.
Transports individuals arrested on bench warrants back to local jurisdiction and back and forth from jail to court proceedings as directed.
5.
Provides court security as supplement to Court Officer and to provide additional security on high profile cases.
6.
Makes bank deposits and performs other security related functions.
Qualifications:
Education:
An Associate's Degree in criminal justice, social work or a related field.
Experience:
Two to three years as a law enforcement officer.
Completion of MCOLES training.
Other Requirements:
Ability to be deputized.
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
Ability to be AED qualified.
Ability to meet and maintain qualifications for carrying a Concealed Weapons Permit as required by the Court.

employees must exude a calm demeanor and ability to handle, mitigate, and deescalate volatile situations.
Regularly required to deal with highly volatile and angry individuals (i.
e.
yelling, cursing, verbal confrontations, threats, etc.
).
Relevant Skills/Specialized Equipment Knowledge:
Basic office equipment such as telephone, calculator, photocopier, Fax, etc.
Photographic, audio and video equipment.
Computer programs including word processing and database entry and maintenance.
Ability to utilize firearms, police radios, e-mail and a smartphone.
Ability to operate a police equipped type vehicle.
Proven proficiency in the use of firearms and defense tactics.
Ability to use specialized software systems such as JIS and others used for research and tracking.
Ability to effectively communicate with persons of diverse socio-economic backgrounds and to de-escalate hostile individuals and situations.
COMPENSATION &
Benefits:
This is a non-exempt Grade J position with the AFSCME bargaining unit offering excellent benefits, including investment plan options, PTO accrual and paid holidays upon hire! All other benefits including use of accrued PTO and insurance (medical/prescription/dental/vision/life and disability insurance) effective following 90 days of employment and successfully passing the probationary period.
