Civil Technical Specialist (Civil Engineer)

Description GAI is seeking a Civil Technical Specialist (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team.
Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems.
The right candidate will be able to work from one of the following locations:
Chicago, IL; Fort Wayne, IN; Jackson, MI; Overland Park, KS; Orlando, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Pittsburgh, PA; Tampa, FL.
Additionally, the right candidate could have the ability to work remote or from a hybrid schedule.
The successful candidate will be eligible for a GAI sign-on bonus.
As a GAI civil technical specialist, this position is responsible assisting a team of engineers and project managers with transmission line designs.
This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.

Responsibilities:
Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery.
Tasks may include:
Preparation of Specification PackagesPreparation of Structural and Fabrication DrawingsDesign and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TowerDesign and Analysis of foundations.
Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
Must demonstrate attention to detail.
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
Direction Received:
Design a portion of a project, system, component, or process; prepares complete project documents; designs and conducts field investigations, analyzes and interprets data; formulates and solves problems.
Receives direction on objectives; receives guidance on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering, preferably civil engineering, is required.
Competency:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Autocadd, Microstation, PLS SuiteCommunication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.
Mathematical Skills:
Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.
g.
, engineering calculations, design, etc.
)Computer Skills:
Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages.
Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry.
Travel Requirements:
Must be able to travel to GAI and client office locations as needed.
Travel requirement is estimated at up to 10%.
