Home-based Counselor - Lenawee County

Highfields, Inc. began in 1962 as a residential camp for troubled boys in Ingham County. We serve about 8,000 people in 13 mid-Michigan counties and are currently seeking a qualified Home-based Counselor for our Family Preservation Program serving clients in Lenawee County.
Home-based therapy takes place at the home of the family rather than in an office. A principle advantage of home-based services is that the clinician has the opportunity to observe clients in their natural environment. Many clients are more relaxed in their own space and this allows for the relationship between client and clinician to be establish more quickly.
Services provided are during traditional and non-traditional hours allowing for a flexible schedule. You are not expected to be in the office when not serving clients. All paperwork and documentation may be performed remotely.
To do well in this role, you will need to have a strong background in infant and youth counseling and mental health You should have a master's degree and a current LARA license in counseling, or the ability to obtain. Interpersonal skills are necessary to gain client trust, along with excellent communication, and a passion for helping others. Experienced in evidence-based treatment models and person-centered planning.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or directly related field.
  • State licensure commensurate with required degree (Consideration given if currently in process of obtaining or ability to obtain.).
  • One year or more experience in providing counseling services to children and families.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Having good interpersonal skills, flexible, hopeful/optimistic, culturally sensitive, and self-aware.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
